Mari not only enjoys making tasty dishes for her family, but derives
great pleasure in taking care of her loved ones. She thrives on the company and the
conversation
times around the dinner table.
Here are some of her favourite recipes. She is keen to share them with
you. Enjoy!
Recipes:
Mari likes meat, vegetables and fruit. She prefers meat with
a little bit of curry or tangy flavor.
Mutton shanks with
curry and potatoes and sweet potatoes
Ingredients:
- 1 kg mutton shanks
- 2 chopped onions
- 1 teaspoon garlic
- 1 tablespoon curry (or to taste)
- Fruit chutney to taste
- 8 large potatoes (peeled)
- 8 sweet potatoes (peeled)
- 100 ml cream
- salt and spices to taste
Directions:
- First steam the shanks until tender. Not too much water, because
it must cook rather dry. (Do not pour out the excess water, because
you will lose flavor)
- Steam the potatoes with the meat.
- Pour a table spoon of oil into the pot and add the chopped
onions. Stir onions lightly, then add the chutney, curry, salt,
spices and garlic.
- Stir until sauces begins to thicken.
- Add the cream.
Ingredients and method for sweet potatoes
- 8 sweet potatoes
- 200 - 250 ml syrup
With the sweet potatoes, you must add the syrup while it is
cooking. Do not use too much water in the beginning. The syrup makes the
sweet potatoes light brown and sweet. Butter can be added to make it
more tasty and sticky.


Easy
Buttermilk Rusks
Ingredients:
- 2 kg Self-raising flour
- 500 g butter
- 6 eggs
- 2 cups of sugar, or to taste
- 1 liter buttermilk, or yoghurt, which
works just as well
- 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
Directions:
- Heat oven to 190 °C.
- Melt butter.
- Add all other ingredients together in a
bowl.
- Add the melted butter to the ingredients
in the bowl.
- Mix well.
- You can roll the dough into little balls,
or the dough can be pressed into the pan and cut into rusks, after
baking.
- Bake rusks until light brown on
top and remove from oven.
- Baking time is about 30 to 45 minutes.
- Let the rusks cool off a bit and cut into
squares, or carefully break apart.
- Dry out in lower part of the oven (warming oven).


Tasty
Spaghetti Dish

Ingredients:
- 1 packet of spaghetti
- 1 large onion
- 500 mg cauliflower
- 2 packets of bacon or chicken (deboned)
as preferred
- 1 packet of mushrooms
- 200 ml cream

Directions:
- Cook the spaghetti until it is soft. Place in ‘n
bowl.
- Fry the
onion and mushrooms until light brown.
- Mix the bacon or chicken with the
onions and fry together with the 200 ml of cream.
- Now cook the cauliflower for 10
minutes. Strain and mix into bowl of spaghetti. Add the meat and onions to
the spaghetti.
Note: It is truly a TASTY dish!
